The Nagasaki Express

No. 26. July 9th 1870

--

The foreign residents of Yokohama are proving, by worthy deeds, that they are growing fully alive to their own importance . By latest intelligence, we learn that they are shortly to have a Public Garden, and an Organ for their Church, costing $3,000. We should like to emulate them in both matters but fear this is an impossibility, for various reasons, as regards the Public Gardens. Not so however with the Organ. To be sure, we cannot have such an expensive instrument, but we certainly might have one which would suit our small place of worship without being in any way extravagant, and no one will deny that it is wanted. We understand such could be procured for from £120 to £150, and we think this amount might easily be raised. One gentleman has already kindly offered to subscribe $100, provided the balance is forthcoming.
